The Gold Rush of 1849
Riley, not yet 17, begged his parents for permission to let him go to the “gold fields of California.” They reluctantly consented.
Wm Judd was listed on an 1850 census in California.
Two years later Riley joined the Norton wagon train in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and returned home to Salt Lake.

ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother would often to say to me, “my generation is one of physical toil and your generation is one of mental anguish.” I understand that statement better now than when I first heard it many years ago. Returning to BYU after forty + years can be “mental anguish.” However difficult it is—the information that is available to us is limitless. We can take this knowledge and accomplish so much. A Family History graduate has so many options—the sky is the limit.
